About Herkimer County Criminal History

Herkimer County criminal records are divided among the Sheriff's Office, local and county courts, the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, state corrections, and the New York State Sex Offender Registry. The right source depends on the record. This private reference site organizes official portals, office contacts, request steps, and access limits so readers can reach the agency that actually maintains the information.

Why We Built This Site

New York does not place every criminal-history record in one public search. Herkimer County arrest and custody records begin with the arresting agency or Sheriff's Office. Court clerks keep charge, appearance, disposition, and sentence files. The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services is the only source of an official state criminal-history record, but its Personal Record Review channel is fingerprint-based and limited to the subject or that person's attorney. The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision and the New York State Sex Offender Registry maintain other distinct records. Bringing those paths together helps a reader choose the correct office without treating unlike records as interchangeable.

What You Will Find Here

  • Agency contacts: where to reach the Herkimer County Sheriff's Office, court clerks, and statewide record systems
  • Official check steps: how DCJS fingerprint Personal Record Review and OCA court-record searches differ
  • Record guides: how court case files, arrest records, and registry profiles are searched and read
  • Record sealing information: where New York sealing rules and official filing forms apply to a person's own record

What We Cannot Do

This is a privately run reference site, not part of Herkimer County, New York courts, a police department, or a state agency. Its role has clear limits:

  • We cannot run an official background check or pull a criminal record for anyone
  • We cannot file record-sealing applications, records requests, or other papers for you
  • We cannot issue certified copies of any criminal record, court document, or rap sheet
  • We cannot give legal advice or explain how a specific charge or case applies to you
  • We cannot guarantee that every phone number, fee, or address listed on this site is current right now

An official record must come from its custodian, such as the sheriff, a court clerk, or the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services. This site can identify the source, but it cannot issue the document.

Search Partners

Third-party providers operate search boxes that appear on some pages. A provider controls its results, terms, and prices. If use of a tool leads to a paid signup, this site may receive a referral fee that supports free access to its reference content. We do not set a partner's charges or decide what its search returns.
