Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside company that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its result. We do not keep or log those search terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email sent to us may be retained long enough to answer and manage the message. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, the server automatically receives standard technical details about the visit:
- Page-view times and the pages visited
- Device type and operating system
- Browser name and version
- The referring website, when available
- Time spent on viewed pages
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They help show, in aggregate, which pages receive traffic and where visits end. Analytics providers assist with that measurement. A browser can block cookies, though disabling them may change how some site functions behave.

No Criminal-Record Data on File
This site does not keep, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal-record data. It publishes general directions to Herkimer County record custodians, including the Sheriff's Office, criminal courts, the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, and the New York State Sex Offender Registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor data is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party criminal files.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the site's search boxes. A partner's privacy policy, retention rules, and sharing practices govern information entered into its tool. We do not control those terms. Review the provider's policy before submitting a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Herkimer County Sheriff's Office, New York courts, DCJS, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination's privacy terms apply. Read those terms before providing personal information.
Some advertising companies may track activity across websites to select ads. That processing occurs on their systems, not ours.

We do not sell personal information. Limited data may be available to:

- Search partners that process a visitor's chosen query

- Government or law-enforcement bodies when valid legal process requires disclosure
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable standard safeguards are used for the data we collect. No internet system is completely secure, however, so we cannot guarantee that unauthorized access or a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such data, we will delete it.
Your Data Rights
Rights may vary by residence and applicable law. New York General Business Law Article 22-A addresses deceptive practices, while the New York Freedom of Information Law, Public Officers Law Article 6, governs access to government records rather than private-site visitor data. Criminal-history disclosure is also limited by Criminal Procedure Law sections 160.50, 160.55, 160.57, 160.59, and 720.35, plus Correction Law Article 6-C. At a minimum, you may:
- Ask us to correct inaccurate information
- Request a copy of personal data we hold about you
- Ask for deletion of that data
- Opt out of certain processing where the law provides that right
